Nice Infographics

The New York Times often features great data and information design in their print and online pubs…..but their interactive infographics for the Olympics coverage are particularly sharp. Check out the flash-based presentation of medal counts by country (current games, and games past).

Another nice one is a look at the history of Olympic torches/torch design.

These presentations not only serve up facts in a more entertaining format, they also involve you in the experience. Leaving you with a deeper understanding of the material and overall message.

They’re a good reminder of two important steps in any project – look hard at all the content and identify any opportunities to bring data to life; and the more you allow someone to participate (instead of just read), the more they’ll take away.
