Skate or Die

Many of us go through a “skater” phase. You get the board(s), the clothes, and cruise around trying to ollie for what seems like FOREVER. Just that small act of leaping in the air on a board can take so long to learn that the phase ends pretty quickly. Back in high school I had a solid two-three years of stick-with-it skateboarding, until I realized breaking my wrists was detrimental to playing a soccer goalkeeper(!).

The dream continues to live on, so I was pumped when the very man responsible for helping bring a world-class skate park to Columbia (and now Charleston) invited me over for a morning session. With the promise of a borrowed board, purple helmet, and wearing my not-very-skate-friendly-shoes, I meekly asked the wife for permission and headed out with nervous anticipation.

It’s not quite like riding a bike, but I only took one nasty fall and had fun cruising around. Looking forward to Charleston’s version coming soon. Here is some video of a fun little section.

Now, if you’re still reading/watching. Here’s some video of real skaters at Columbia’s park.
