A number of different research studies show that women outnumber men on the Internet….and it’s likely to stay that way for some time. Women make up anywhere from 50.6% to 53% of the online population (defined roughly as anyone who has accessed the internet in the last 30 days). Female usage has risen 12.4 percentage points since 2000, while male usage is up 3.2 points. Some speculate that the growth is being fueled by younger female users who have grown up with web (eliminating any early gender gap) as well as the rise in new activities like social networking that appeal to young females.
