Wire Framing vs. Sketching
We’ve been experimenting with some of the latest/greatest wire framing tools out there. Many of them make the process pretty easy and some look better than others. One thing that keeps bothering me is how cold and lifeless the end result can sometimes be. It makes perfect sense to go through the mechanical process of wire framing – especially when laying out complex tools and processes.
But for those applications that aren’t overly technical or complex, it’s often easier to convey the function and purpose of a particular page through a quick sketch. Especially when the function/purpose is to engage the user emotionally.
I suppose the right answer for most user experiences is a careful mix of the two – but above is a quick comparison of the two approaches….
