Madaktari Launch

On Friday we launched a new website for Madaktari, an incredible program founded by South Carolina neurosurgeon and MUSC Professor Dilantha Ellegala. After a trip to Tanzania Dr. Ellegala realized that a medical training and education program was needed for the developing world. If doctors and nurses could train local doctors and nurses, you would begin to develop a long-term, sustainable, self-propagating system of care in developing countries. Doyle Word joined as Executive Director in late 2008 and the program has taken off. All this is made possible by the efforts of the volunteer teachers and administrators…and through the support of partner hospitals and donors.

Many thanks to Kathleen Ellis and Brennan Wesley for their direction and materials…both visited the teaching hospitals in Tanzania this past summer and Brennan provided great photos and video. Props also to Jenny Badman for her talents on the writing effort.
