Employee Spotlight: Ben Wong

At Blue Ion, we realize that our work is a reflection of who we are as individuals and our success is a direct result of all the different personalities, talents, rock band  life experiences, and weird senses of humor that each of our employees brings to the table. This diverse group of music makers dedicated employees is what makes Blue Ion so freaking awesome.  To celebrate these differences, we’re going to be highlighting one employee every week so you can get to know us a little better and learn what makes us tick. This week’s Employee Spotlight is one of our newer employees:

Ben Wong

Ben Wong

What are your nicknames?
My actual middle name that my parents decided would best serve me throughout life in a western society is “Bun-Mun.” It became my default nickname since it was first discovered by my class mates in primary school. Just a few iterations include: Bun, Bunny, Son of a Bun, Bunji, Bun of Steel, Bun Muncher, etc I’m happy to say that its use has since evolved into a more endearing manner, thanks to my wife.

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Bunography

If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
Talent Absorber, I would absorb people’s talent with every handshake.

Super Ben

Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster?
Tiny elephant, as long as I get to have enormous tusks for defense.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
You’d have to ask my parents, who knows what weird things I was fed as a child. I vaguely recall having dried fish stomach in the the pantry, and I know I’ve had soup derived from swallow’s nest, but those were like shrimp and grits in my household.

If you were a cupcake, what flavor would you be?
Minimalist – it would be a cupcake with the minimum amount of icing to still qualify as a cupcake and not slide into the muffin division.

What celebrity do people think you look like?
Pick any asian in popular culture and I’ve probably been told that I look like them. The only one I accept is Jonathan Ke Quan aka Data from the Goonies, or Short Round from Indiana Jones…to that I hold my hands up and say “touché.”

BW and Data

When you were 6 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Pro-Wrestler. I was in my WWF phase (WWE for you millenials) and had the body image of the Ultimate Warrior.

What was your favorite toy as a child?
I used to write letters to my Dad, begging him to buy me WWF toys. I had the old classics like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, Brutus The Barber Beefcake (not sure if Brutus can be considered a “classic”).

What would you like to be famous for?
Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion of Phenomenology.

What one food do you wish had zero calories?
One reason (among many) I didn’t make it as a pro-wrestler was because I couldn’t gain enough weight. So I don’t wish any food to have zero calories, but if I could make water have the same calories as a Five Guys double burger then I’ll see you in the ring.

Ben Cena Pro Wrestler

If you were a Crayola crayon, what color would you be?
Blue Ion Blue.

What’s your Smurf name?
Do humans have Smurf names? I guess mine would naturally be Bun Smurf.

If you could only drink one beer for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I’m not a beer drinking, low-calorie eating Smurf. This employee spotlight is making some big assumptions…

What is your theme song?
Coat of Arms by Nosaj Thing. Or anything with a trap beat will do for now.

What tv show/movie are you ashamed to admit you love?
“Love” would be a bit strong, but when my wife has Mob Wives on it’s like watching a train wreck.

If your house was burning down, what’s the one thing you would save?
I’d borrow Zach’s duffle bag and save my wife and child.

Ben Leia Stormtrooper

Which cartoon character would you most like to switch lives with?
Sam-I-Am. Best. Salesman. Ever.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
I guess whatever they normally serve at those death row joints. To be honest, if I was on death row I wouldn’t care what my last meal was. Serve me fish stomach in a swallow’s nest and, although I’d be equal parts confused and impressed, I’m sure I’d have other things to complain about.

If you were to write a self help book, what would the topic be?
“Bunology: Do More, Sleep Less”

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?
The Beatles playing their final show on the rooftop of Abbey Road studios.
