DC Bike Station

I hit tonight’s Revolution on 2 Wheels lecture…the series is organized by the Charleston Civic Design Center (thanks) and sponsored by mybikelaw and Charleston Moves (thanks). This week’s presenter was Bill Gallagher, a principal at KGP Design Studio in DC who leads their urban design and transportation studios. After a half inspiring/half depressing slide show of bike friendly cities around the world (depressing in that we don’t have more of the good stuff) he shared the story of the DC Bike Station they designed next to Union Station. It’s a monster hit….becoming an icon for the city’s move to become more transit evolved. Given a difficult site and hefty list of restrictions, KGP pulled off a homerun with the modern, green, functional, bicycle wheel/helmet inspired structure.
