A New Christmas In Charleston Website, Just In Time For Christmas

This year, we were excited to work our friends at the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to give ChristmasInCharleston.com a shiny new look.

Those who have been to the site in years past will recognize some of the same core content features such as events, where you can keep up with all of the holiday shin digs around town, special holiday packages and tours pages and a gifts page highlighting Charleston-inspired gifting ideas.

New to the site is beautiful video shot by Adam Boozer, a spruced up advent calendar, a collection of holiday-related blogs and an interactive map. Put on some Christmas music, maybe make yourself a hot chocolate and we’ll dive into the features of the Christmas In Charleston website.

We loved the footage from Adam so Nic wanted to design the site in a way that we could feature it prominently. Doesn’t that just put you in the Christmas spirit already?

The Advent Calendar Page has existed in previous iterations of the Christmas In Charleston website, but this year it has a little extra programming fanciness thanks to Ansley’s handiwork. As in previous years, the advent calendar programmatically works as an advent calendar should – each day in December leading up to Christmas, a new day will be clickable revealing a special offer, a christmas recipe or other fun surprise. What is different this year is the javascript fanciness allowing the advent calendar grid to build upon itself each day – a little extra Christmas magic that keeps the page even more fun and interesting when you return each day. For example, the above video was recorded on Dec 7th, so only 7 of the tiles are visible. Below is what the page will look like on Christmas. We won’t reveal the popups, of course, you have to visit the site for that!

This Gifting Page allows for users to easily sort gifting options – check out that sleek transition between categories.

Trimmings Page

The Trimmings Page is a new component of the website. Our friends at the CACVB were already producing so much great content over on the Explore Charleston website related to the holidays so we wanted to give that content a home on the Christmas In Charleston site as well.

Around Town Page

Perhaps the coolest part of the site is the Around Town Page. For the first time, the CACVB was involved in decorating King Street for Christmas. Each decoration and banner is inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas, but with a little Charleston twist. The meaning behind each is so special so we wanted a neat way to display that on the site. Nic and Tyler worked on the design and Ansley brought the whole map to life in a fun and interactive way.

Merry Christmas (In Charleston) everyone!
