Introducing Battery2Beach

Many thanks to Gil Shuler and team for helping to kick off the Battery2Beach movement with a great new identity. As usual, they nailed the assignment and gave the program something to live up to.

Battery2Beach is both an effort and a path. The goal is to provide a safe and designated path for bicyclists that runs from the the Battery in downtown Charleston to both Isle of Palms and Folly Beach. Charleston Moves is behind the effort, along with great support from Half Moon Outfitters, New Belgium Brewing and others. You will be able to read much more about the effort in the coming weeks as materials/websites and more come to life.

The Battery to IOP section is relatively easy to set up…..no major hurdles to clear other than getting the municipalities to step up to lane painting and signage. The Battery to Folly Beach segment has some tougher challenges..namely the Ashley River Bridge, the intersection at Windemere Shopping Center, and beautiful Folly Road. But the challenges will be overcome, and the day will come when we can all ride back and forth without risking life or limb.
