This is FAB!

FAB Workshop kicks off on Sunday, and we couldn’t be more excited. FAB’s founder Randi Weinstein and her right hand, Hope Troup, have impressed us all with their heart, hustle, and humor, even in the more stressful moments of pulling off a 200+ attendee, 30-speaker, first year event. Congrats, ladies, we’re so proud to watch it all come together.

If you didn’t score a ticket to FAB (womp womp), you can get a little taste of the awesomeness tomorrow, Saturday, June 9 at 5 pm at Blue Bicycle Books on King Street. They’re hosting two, yes, two FAB speakers: food writer Kat Kinsman, and one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People and James Beard Award winner Barbara Lynch for a discussion on their new books Out of Line and Hi, Anxiety. Angel Postell of Home Team PR will also be joining them.

Out of Line describes Lynch’s remarkable process of self-invention, including her encounters with colorful characters of the food world, and vividly evokes the magic of creation in the kitchen. Through her story, Lynch explores how the past—both what we strive to escape from and what we remain true to—can strengthen and expand who we are.

In Hi, Anxiety, food writer, editor, and commentator Kat Kinsman expands on the high profile pieces she wrote for CNN.com about depression, and its wicked cousin, anxiety. As Kat found when she started to write about her struggles, she is not alone in feeling like the simple act of leaving the house can be crippling. And though periodic medication, counseling, a successful career and a happy marriage have brought her relief, the illness remains.

And, I’m incredibly grateful to be a panelist on Monday and have the chance to talk about Growing Your Brand with these talented women:

  • Maneet Chauhan, Morph Hospitality Group
  • Alice Cheng, CEO & Founder, Culinary Agents
  • Carrie Morey, Owner, Callie’s Biscuits and Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit
  • Homa Dashtaki, The White Moustache
  • Nancy Cushman, Founder/Creator, Cushman Concepts
  • Jen Hidinger, Co-Founder, Staplehouse & The Giving Kitchen
  • Moderator: Amanda Kludt, Editor in Chief, Eater

Special thanks to the Blue Ion team, especially Nic, Ellen, Erin, Tyler, and Robert, for doing what you all do so well.

Cheers, FAB, let’s do this!
